At Volumetric Works, we harness 3D printing technology to craft unique, customizable lighting fixtures. This energy-efficient process allows us to produce on demand with minimal waste, a sharp contrast to traditional manufacturing methods like injection molding.
By embracing 3D printing, we’re committed to achieving a zero-waste production model that minimizes our environmental impact at every step. Each piece we create reflects our dedication to sustainability, from the use of renewable materials to responsible packaging choices.
The 3D-printed components in our products are crafted from polylactic acid (PLA), a biodegradable, plant-based plastic typically derived from renewable resources like corn or beets. PLA is biodegradable in industrial composting facilities and does not release microplastics, making it a more environmentally friendly choice compared to traditional, fossil fuel-based plastics.
As a small business, we are deeply committed to reducing waste and minimizing our environmental footprint.
Our production process, 3D printing, is a low-energy alternative to traditional manufacturing, allowing us to produce only what’s needed with minimal waste. This aligns perfectly with our zero-waste goals, as each product is crafted on demand to avoid overproduction.
We design our products with modularity and repairability in mind. Components like bulbs and core parts are interchangeable, so if a part becomes damaged or worn, it can be replaced individually rather than discarding the entire fixture. This modular approach not only extends the lifespan of our products but also helps us achieve a more sustainable, circular economy.
Our packaging is equally mindful, made entirely of recyclable materials and free from plastic. We keep inserts small to further reduce waste, and through our recycling program, customers can return any damaged or non-functional Volumetric Works products, which we responsibly recycle or repurpose.
Sustainability is a core principle at Volumetric Works, and we are constantly exploring ways to enhance our practices, from energy efficiency to renewable materials.
Your feedback is invaluable to us on this journey—if you have suggestions for improving our sustainable efforts, please reach out at info@volumetricworks.com
Together, we can make a positive impact.
Absolutely! Our products are designed for easy disassembly, so when they reach the end of their lifespan, each component can be separated and recycled, upcycled, or disposed of responsibly. This approach helps us minimize waste and reinforces our commitment to zero-waste production.
Key components of our products, including the bulbs, are interchangeable. This design enables us to replace or service specific parts if they become damaged or worn out, avoiding the need to replace the entire fixture. By supporting repairs over replacements, we’re helping reduce waste and prolong the life of each piece.
Our 3D-printed parts are made from polylactic acid (PLA), a plant-based polymer. While PLA is biodegradable in industrial composting, it’s not recyclable through typical household programs. That’s why we offer our own recycling program: simply send any damaged or non-functional Volumetric Works products back to us, and we’ll ensure they are sustainably recycled or repurposed.
As a thank-you, we provide a £5 store credit for each product recycled through us.
To begin the recycling process, reach out at info@volumetricworks.com with the names and quantities of the products you’d like to recycle. We’re here to make sustainable choices convenient for you!
